Postural Analysis and Assessment
All new clients must book in for an initial assessment. This can either be a Private assessment or a Duet assessment (for two people). The assessment includes a Postural Analysis where the instructor will look at your spinal alignment and any muscle imbalances you may have. Any injuries and relevant medical history are discussed and assessed during the appointment. This appointment will go a long way towards determining what types of session and what overall program will suit you best, for the best results. You and your instructor will decide the best course of action together.
Please don't hesitate to contact us to arrange an appointment to suit you.
Private Classes, Duets and Group Classes
Similar to our assessments, our Pilates sessions are also offered as 1:1 Private sessions, 2:1 Duet sessions and small Classes of currently up to 5 students.
● 1:1 sessions are tailored to individual needs and as such, can deliver remarkable results. Sessions may involve a mix of apparatus as required, but are focused on either Mat Pilates or Reformer Pilates.
● Our Duet Sessions are ideal for clients who prefer to exercise with a partner, friend, colleague or family member. Sessions are fully integrated, fun and tailored to each group’s specific needs. These sessions are a great way to share the cost and stay motivated, while maintaining a modicum of privacy and more personalised focus.
● Group Classes (currently up to a maximum of 5 students) are sold on a first-come-first-served basis. New group bookings can be made but if a booking of 3 is required, a small additional fee may be charged for exclusivity
Work levels are client specific. Programmes are personalised and all classes are 1 hour long.
Mat Classes
Our Mat classes follow the fundamental guiding principles taught by Joseph Pilates and deliver a whole-body workout focused on core stability and fine motor control. As with all true Pilates exercises, our focus is on accurate technique for maximum benefit - not just strengthening but improving overall balance, tone, blood circulation and breathing. Exercises are adapted to our students and personal attention ensures everyone understands what they are trying to do, and what that will ultimately achieve.
Reformer Pilates
Reformer Pilates takes the exercises developed for the mat and allows our Instructor to make them harder or easier - opening up the opportunity for clients to perform exercises they may never have been able to do before, and allowing them to develop muscles they may not have worked before. This makes the reformer a great tool for rehabilitation, and/or for focusing on improving performance in other sports and activities.
The Reformer was designed by Joseph Pilates himself and offers a challenging and dynamic full body workout. The Reformer is the ultimate exercise machine! For more information about the Reformer, please use the What is Reformer Pilates? link at the foot of this page, or click this button:
All our Reformer Pilates sessions are enjoyed on state-of-the-art Align Pilates Reformers. Align Pilates are a UK-based company and all their reformers are designed in Great Britain. They are now the leading brand in Europe, selling to over 28 countries. Visit align-pilates.com for more information on their apparatus.
Our Reformer Pilates sessions test and develop your core strength by using a combination of your own body weight and the resistance created by the tension in the springs. The springs can be used to make exercises easier or harder and your instructor will advise you on the right level for you.
As well as the resistance/assistance generated by our reformers, SCC Pilates use smaller items of equipment such as inflatable balls, magic rings and Bosu balls, as well as the reformer-specific jump board, standing platform and foot-strap, all of which can be used to enhance the exercises we deliver, making them more difficult or more accessible, depending on individual needs.
● Levels include beginner (Reformer Basics), intermediate (Reformer Classic) and advanced (Reformer Pro)
● We also offer a handful of combined Mat and Reformer sessions, and run more cardio-focused Jump Reformer classes which use the jump-boards
● Sessions are 60 minutes long
● Pay-per-class or subscription pricing options are available (all sessions require advance booking)
What Will Pilates Do For You?
It may sound like a cliché, but Pilates is more than just exercise; it's beneficial to your overall health. It promotes better circulation, improves fine motor control and balance, increases flexibility and tightens up tone. By focusing on the deep, core muscles, you will train your body to be more efficient; you will train it to be more effective - building strength by building stability from strong foundations.
Pilates will help with sporting performance - mention to us what you need help with and we can integrate exercises designed specifically to benefit you. We've had golfers improve their swing, dancers improve their reach, professional horse-riders and jockeys improve their core stability and balance, and everyday you-and-me improving everything from little niggles to serious postural complaints.
By building muscles, you fill your skin back up and those irritating dangly bits start to disappear. By training your body to use different muscles, you take the strain off the superficial muscles and you will find strains and pains start to disappear. By stretching the body and articulating your spine and mobilising your joints, you will find that any trapped muscles – such as those causing sciatica or nervous tingles – will free themselves and symptoms can totally disappear. We can't promise they will stay away forever, but if you carry on training Pilates and incorporate its principles into your daily life, there's a very good chance they will.
When considering what Pilates does for you, some people say "exercise smarter, not harder" (kudos to Encore Pilates in Gainesville), others say "sculpt your body, scientifically" (so says Extreme Pilates in Laguna Niguel) and Integration Pilates Studio in Edmonton says Pilates delivers "fitness from the inside out." We couldn't agree more.
There are not only the physical benefits; Pilates improves your peace of mind, too. Come to our classes and leave your worries at the door! Relax; breathe; forget the outside world and focus on yourself. It is a known fact that exercising releases endorphins which improve your mood. The slow, focused exercises of a Pilates session have been likened to meditation – you need to concentrate on the exercises which forces you to forget about everything else. Many of our clients comment on how much better they feel when they leave – not just physically, but mentally too.
This is your place of solace and you deserve a moment of calm. Give it a try and see for yourself.
