FAQ
Do you cater for beginners?
Yes, we offer a range of classes that are suitable for all abilities. We begin with an assessment, and will recommend a level to you based on your strengths and your needs.
Where are you?
We are not too far from Tesco Express in West Heath, Congleton. Just head in towards Congleton along West Road and take your first left into Crossledge, leading to Forge Lane... keep heading down the hill, all the way to the bottom. When the hill flattens out, and the road opens into a brick-paved junction, bear right and then left – and you'll find us on Forge Wood Close, down by the River Dane.
Do you do Mat Classes or just Reformer?
SCC Pilates offer Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates classes. Mat classes are held on the reformer platforms (converted into mats), which many customers find it easier to get up and down from than the floor. For this reason, our Mat classes are also small, ensuring that you receive proper attention, and tailored guidance from the instructor.
I have a bad back or a muscular injury, should I come to Pilates?
With any injury or condition, if it's serious, please seek medical advice before training, however, in our experience, it is lack of training which causes niggles to appear or reappear, as regular exercise helps strengthen the core and prevent injuries. If you have hurt yourself, we ask that you let the instructor know. Your instructor will either add exercises into your class, tailored specifically to your needs to help you recover, or offer you suitable alternatives that will protect your injured body parts. We believe that careful, considered exercises can genuinely help speed up recovery times.
What do I need to bring to class?
SCC Pilates have a requirement for all participants to wear grip socks - for safety and hygiene purposes. We sell these in the studio if you don't own any. We recommend that you bring a towel, and a bottle of water, and wear clothes that will enable free movement. Denim is not recommended - nor is it allowed at SCC Pilates, as the rivets can damage our equipment. Please either come dressed to exercise, or bring a change of clothes.

As Joseph Pilates said himself,
“You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions,
and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.”
Joseph Pilates developed a system he called Contrology – now known merely as "Pilates" – a mix of breathing techniques coupled with very deliberate strengthening and toning exercises to reshape and revitalise the human body. Pilates sets out to re-educate the body to allow full freedom of movement. Through repetitious practice, the human body develops muscle-memory which then intuitively transposes the practices and techniques learned in the studio into our everyday lives.
“Correctly executed to the point of subconscious reaction,
these exercises will reflect grace and balance in your routine activities.”
Pilates himself was living proof of the transformative, restorative and prescriptive potential of his methods. Suffering from rickets, rheumatic fever and asthma as a young child, Pilates transformed himself into a 14-year-old who was fit enough to pose for anatomical charts. He worked with ballet dancers and sports people and recovering soldiers after the war to reduce or remove pain, improve performance, and ultimately, improve people’s lives.
